This error appears when the postal (ZIP) code set as your shipping origin is missing, incorrectly formatted, or does not match your selected origin country.
Error Key: InvalidPostalCode
Why a Postal Code Is Required #
Etsy uses your shipping origin postal code to estimate delivery times for buyers and, for calculated shipping, to generate accurate carrier rates at checkout. If the postal code is invalid or missing, Etsy cannot perform these calculations and rejects the listing.
Why This Happens #
The most common causes are:
- Country mismatch — the country set as your shipping origin does not match the format of the postal code entered (e.g., a UK postcode entered under a US country setting)
- Formatting errors — some countries require specific formats:
- UK postcodes must include a space between the two parts (e.g.,
SW1A 2AA, notSW1A2AA) - US ZIP codes must be exactly 5 digits, or 5+4 in ZIP+4 format
- Canadian postal codes follow the pattern
A1A 1A1with a space - Leading or trailing space — an invisible space at the beginning or end of the field causes validation to fail
- Unsupported postal code — some remote or new postal codes may not yet be recognised by Etsy’s validation
How to Fix It #
- Go to your shipping profile settings in the Etsy Integration – DPL app (or in Etsy under Shop Manager → Settings → Shipping settings).
- Confirm the Ship from country is set correctly.
- Enter a valid postal code that matches the format required for that country.
- Remove any invisible leading or trailing spaces from the field.
- Save the settings.
- Retry the upload.
Note: If an order has items with different origin postal codes, all shipping profiles involved must have valid postal codes — updating one profile may not be enough if multiple profiles are affected.
