Managing a Shopify and eBay workflow means keeping product data, inventory, orders, and listing details connected across both platforms. But listing presentations matters too.
Shopify gives merchants control over how their storefront looks. eBay listings also need to feel clear, consistent, and professional for buyers. Until now, keeping eBay HTML descriptions consistent across multiple products often meant repeating the same layout manually or editing descriptions one by one.
To make this easier, DPL eBay Integration has added a new feature: Design-Friendly eBay Description Templates.
With this update, sellers get a cleaner way to manage how Shopify product descriptions appear on eBay. Instead of rebuilding the same description structure for every item, they can create a reusable template, connect it to a profile, and let DPL apply the selected format during upload or sync.
What’s New in DPL eBay Integration
The feature works in three areas:
1. Create Design-Friendly Templates with the Built-In Editor
The new template editor gives sellers a more visual way to prepare eBay descriptions. Built with TinyMCE, it provides a familiar rich-text editing experience for structuring sections.
2. Use Shortcodes in the Template
The template uses an Insert Shopify Description placeholder. When a product is uploaded, DPL places that product’s Shopify description into the selected spot inside the template. The template does not replace the Shopify product description. It wraps around it, so each product keeps its own unique description while using the shared template layout.
3. Link Templates to Upload Profiles
Description templates are applied through profiles in DPL eBay Integration. After creating a template, open the profile you want to edit, go to Additional Settings, and select the template under the eBay Description Template option.
Upload Profiles >> Additional Setting >> eBay Description Template
Once the profile is saved, products uploaded using that profile can use the selected description template. This helps sellers apply different templates to different product groups without creating a separate layout for each listing.
Why This Helps Shopify and eBay Sellers
Expanding from Shopify to eBay requires more than moving product data. Listings also need to look clean, organized, and easy for buyers to understand.
Custom eBay description templates help merchants:
- Less repeated formatting: Reuse the same description structure across products.
- Clearer product sections: Keep specifications, shipping notes, returns, and store messages in a predictable order.
- Use category-based layouts: Match description structure to different product groups through Upload Profiles.
- Improve buyer clarity: Help buyers find important listing information faster.
How Custom eBay Description Templates Work
Setting up a custom description template fits directly into your existing DPL workflow:
- Navigate to Templates: Open eBay Integration ‑ DPL, then go to Profiles → eBay Description Templates.
- Design Your Layout: Create a new description template and build your reusable layout using the TinyMCE editor. If you already have custom HTML, you can use the Source Code option in the editor to paste your HTML and review the preview before saving.
- Insert Shortcodes: Add supported shortcodes where product-specific content should appear.
- Link to an Upload Profile: Save your layout, open the Upload Profile where the template should be used, and select the description template from the Profile settings.
- Upload or Sync Your Items: Run your product upload or sync workflow. DPL resolves the shortcodes and sends the final formatted description with the listing to eBay.
Templates are optional. If no template is assigned to a profile, products continue using their Shopify descriptions without template formatting.
Important Note About eBay Descriptions Templates
HTML templates give sellers more flexibility in structuring their eBay descriptions, but those descriptions still need to follow eBay’s listing guidelines. Always keep your templates clean, readable, and suitable for eBay listing pages.
Policy Compliance Note: Avoid active content such as JavaScript, Flash, plug-ins, form actions, or unsupported interactive elements.
The template is only for the description layout. It does not automatically rewrite existing live eBay listings. Changes appear on eBay only when products are updated, re-uploaded, or re-synced.
Sellers still need to check the rest of the listing before publishing or syncing. Sellers should still make sure product titles, images, item specifics, categories, condition, shipping settings, return settings, and inventory details are accurate before publishing or syncing listings to eBay.
Already Using DPL eBay Integration?
If you are already using DPL eBay Integration, this update gives you more control over your eBay product descriptions. You can create a custom HTML description template in the app, add supported shortcodes, and select it from your Profile settings.
